Why “All or Nothing” doesn’t work and what to do instead!

Hey Reader,

Matteo from MattsfitChef here! First of all, welcome to my very first nutrition newsletter. Thanks a lot for being part of MattsfitChef’s community😉

Today, let’s talk about something I see all the time — especially when someone starts a “new diet.”

The "all-or-nothing" mindset.

You’re either eating 100% clean, tracking every gram and calorie, avoiding carbs…Or you’re “off track” completely — ordering takeout, skipping meals, or saying “I’ll start again on Monday.”

Does this sound familiar?

Here’s the thing: that mindset is doing more harm than good.

What if you could just…Eat with intention, instead? Eating with intention means being mindful of your choices without obsessing over them. It means choosing meals that nourish you most of the time — while also allowing flexibility, joy, and life. You know, the 80/20 rule. Because real progress comes from consistency, not perfection. Remember:

  • You don’t need to eat 100% clean to see results.
  • You don’t need to track every bite to build a healthy habit.
  • And you definitely don’t need to “start over” every time life happens.

Try this instead. Next time you feel like you’ve “messed up,” pause. Ask yourself: What’s the next best choice I can make right now? That’s intentional eating. That’s how you build habits—and a lifestyle—that last, for real changes.

One thing my coaching clients often realize is that you don’t need to cut out foods you love to make progress. You can still eat pasta, pizza, enjoy meals out, and feel good in your body — as long as you understand how to make it work for you. It’s all about learning to make conscious decisions, repeated day after day with consistency. That’s exactly what I help you do in 1:1 coaching: No rigid rules. No overwhelm. Just real-life strategies that fit your routine, goals, and preferences.
